February 21, 2002 For our 2nd meeting of 2002, the club
congregated at a fine local drinking establishment called Daiquiris and Creams
in Slidell, LA. We began the meeting at 7:31 pm with the still traditional
toast to Reinheitsgebot.
4 guests were identified this evening...
Cindy and Neil are Slidell residents and are new to home brewing. They are
very interested in learning more about the craft. They even brought us a
taste of their latest batch. Doc Jeff brought Simon Gray as a guest.
Simon is interested in brewing his 1st batch of beer soon. Another one of
Jeff’s guest, Tony, arrived later and gave us a bit of information on a
possible new meeting place with possible catering. All 4 seemed to have a great
time. Please encourage them to visit and brew! They’ll make great
members also!
The Secretary’s report was requested and I,
the Secretary, stated that the minutes of the last meeting are posted on the
MKOB web site and were also sent out via e-mail. Here is the address of the MKOB
web site if you don’t already have it… http://www.geocities.com/BourbonStreet/Delta/5371/
Calvin, our treasurer, reported that at this
time, the club’s bank balance was $1698.52. Tonight’s raffle brought
in an additional $29.00. If you have not paid your $20.00 dues, please
write out a check today and put it in your wallet for the next meeting!
Old Business was opened to the floor.
It was mentioned that the Crescent City
Competition is getting closer. Anyone who wants to enter should do so
soon. I still haven’t heard an entry deadline date. Contact Elvis
or maybe Ron for more information. The address for the Crescent City Home
Brewer’s web site is… http://hbd.org/crescent/
It was noted that Elvis’ Krew of Toth
parade party went well and everyone had a great time. We should all try to
attend next year. Maybe carpool, since the parking is a nightmare.
The floor was then opened to New Business.
The member list was passed around for
updates.
We were all reminded that 2002 dues are now
overdue, so if you don’t have yours paid soon, you will be forced to drink
skunk beer at the next meeting!
Larry has received the Chimay glasses and is
looking to unload them to all who ordered. Please have your money for the
glasses ready.
Larry also passed around choices for bottle
openers that the club wants to order. Contact Larry to voice your opinion
on which openers you would like to see the club get.
Tony gave us a brief on a possible new
meeting location in Slidell. It is called Trinity’s and is located in
the West Point Pepperell Mill (Outlet Mall) at 1-10 and Old Spanish Trail.
It is the old food court and can be rented out for such occasions. He is
in the catering business and indicated that a small gathering could be catered
for somewhere in the neighborhood of $15.00 per person. Please let Ron
know your feelings on this issue, positive or negative.
We commenced with the raffle and collected
$29.00. Ron picked up the bottle of scotch. Jim Cooper won a
t-shirt, and Calvin got the other t-shirt.
Show and tell was announced and Jean Junius
showed us a low price home made glass carboy carrier made from PVC pipe, wood
and rope. He says that it’s easy to make and easy to carry without the
worry of your glass carboy slipping thru your wet fingers!
The beer tasting was then started. Some
great beer was sampled tonight. Larry brought a “Blueberry Beer” that
was the brunt of a few jokes. It really was kind of tasty, and in the end
most of it was consumed.
We had a light crowd tonight. About 15
or so in attendance.
The next meeting will be on Thursday, March
21st, 2002 and depending on the weather, will be either at The Columbia Street
Tap Room, or La. Grill.
See you all next month!
